Body Sculpt of New York, Inc. is a not-for-profit, health and fitness organization, whose purpose is to educate parents and children about childhood obesity and offer healthy lifestyle alternatives, particularly in physical fitness and nutrition. The organization’s founder is Vincent Ferguson, a certified personal trainer and author. The organization has been in operation for 15 years and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501 (c )( 3) since March, 1989.
The organization consist of volunteers who generously donate their time traveling to local schools, churches and community centers to conduct a wide range of sports clinics and answer questions on fitness and nutrition. These role models not only continue to inspire today's youth, but they also lay the groundwork for a better future – showing youngsters the importance of good general health, nutrition and fitness as lifetime goals.
From 1993 to 1998, the organization created and produced the Children's Choice Awards. The Children's Choice Awards enabled over 500,000 children throughout the New York tri-state area to vote and present awards to their favorite role models in Film, Television, Sports, Music, Fashion, Education and Politics. Past honorees who have appeared to accept this prestigious award have included: Actress/Rapper Queen Latifah , R&B singer Brandy, Rapper LL Cool J , Pop Superstar Michael Jackson , Designer Tommy Hilfiger , former New York State Governor Mario Cuomo , former New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins and many others.
In 2004, the organization created the Children's Health & Fitness Expo (now called the Children's Sports & Fitness Expo) to target the ongoing obesity problem plaguing our youth. The Expo is an annual event where thousands of school age children have an opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports activities, health tests, screenings, seminars and demonstrations - all free of charge. |
